I normally don’t fly Delta, but found myself on a business trip to Atlanta last week. For the return flight, I got to the airport a couple of hours early, bought a day pass to the Delta Sky Club, and got ready to get some work done. Since it was around noon, first order of priority was: Lunch!
Me: Do you all serve lunch here?
Delta: No sir, just snacks.
Me: Oh … well, can you recommend a place nearby in the terminal where i could pick up some lunch?
Delta: Not really, the only thing nearby is a food court.
Me: Great.
So back down to the terminal I go, in search of something not-too-bad to eat during my stay in the Delta Sky Club. Best I could do was a Subway sandwich. Back to the DSC.
Delta: Sir, excuse me, you can’t bring that food in here!
Me: I can’t? Why not?
Delta: It’s not allowed.
Me: OK, let me get this straight. It’s lunchtime. I’m like, hungry. You don’t serve lunch. And you won’t let me bring a sandwich with me, even though I’ve paid for a day pass. Have a I got that right?
Delta: That’s right.
Me: I mean, its not like there aren’t people in here eating food — the snacks you provide.
Delta (looking at me like I must be clueless): Yes, but we can’t let people see you bringing in food when we’ve told them they can’t!
I take one more look at the snacks on offer from the Delta Sky Club. Back down I go, to the terminal food court, to eat my Subway sandwich.
